Frank F. Penney Boat Builders

Mike and I went to the Sayville Marina.  I did this pen and ink and watercolor sketch sitting in the back seat of my car. Will probably go back many more times. There is a method to my madness, in time my goal is to paint large scale paintings from my sketches.

If I knew you better, Joan, I'd be teasing you about being in the backseat with Mike! LOL Now, as to this sketch? I think it is beautiful and you have a style I admire so much. I am not sure why I can't seem to loosen up with my watercolors, always so tight and controlled and heavily saturated with color. Yet this is how I wish I painted!

Crimson Leaves you have given me my first laugh of the day. This was fun to paint, I wish that my work was more tight and controlled. Thank you for the kind words and visit.

All the best to you,
Joan

Your work is beautiful Joan!! Its the little touches like the birds that makes this so attractive!

Joan - No way should you want to tighten up your work!!! This is such a great sketch. Isn't that place great? I love that you can sit in the car and have a view. I haven't been there in a while, so I should take a drive. We need to do an art day together somewhere. I went up to the Planting Fields Arboretum. We should go up there together.

Hi Joanie,

Don't tighten your work, it is always loose and fresh. Wonderful sketch, and Sayville Marina lovely setting.

Enjoy the kiddies this weekend.

Azra, Joan and Sue, thank you all so much.
Joan, yes it is a great place. I would like to have a paint day with you. Your travels and sitting in your car has inspired me to give it a try.
